Consensus Decision-Making Workshop

Would you like to learn what Consensus Decision Making really is? How to do it right? How to avoid common traps? When done right, Consensus decisions are rewarding for all stakeholders, tend to be more creative than majority-rule decisions, and tend to bring people together in their common cause. We will learn "Consensus" doesn't mean "casual," or "inefficient," but that there’s a right way to do it and when done right it produces great results.
Come to this half-day Skillbuilder Workshop hosted by the Maine Association of Non-Profits to learn fundamental principles and specific approaches to help your group avoid frustration and make great decisions together.
This workshop is for anyone who is part of a group that currently practices Consensus as the primary way of making decisions, or is considering it.
This Workshop will include:
Practical tips for making Consensus work: consenting, blocking, standing aside, documentation, facilitation techniques, etc.
A grounding in Consensus theory: how it's supposed to work and preconditions for success
Practices that support group efficiency: how groups typically get bogged down and how to remedy inefficient practices
Practical experience using Consensus Decision Making: we'll have a mock meeting as part of the workshop and actually practice deciding a real issue by consensus
